[Manuscript]  Indenture, dated 4 March 1826, between William Pratt Swallow, of Reading, nurseryman, of the first part, John Clacy, of the same, gentleman, of the second part, Charles Rose, of Reading, bricklayer, of the third part, and Edward Vines, gentleman, of the fourth part: re appointment and release of a newly erected messuage or tenement on the south side of Oxford Road in Reading, in the parish of St. Mary.  Included is a detailed schedule of relevant indentures, certificates and copies, 1724-1825.  Other persons mentioned include Benjamin Collyer, Samuel Lessingham, Edward Lewis, Charles Benwell, Thomas Day, James Slaughter, Sarah Hanson, Rev. [Manuscript]  Indenture, dated 13 July 1824, between Maria Spencer, of Binfield, widow, of the first part, James Taylor, of Binfield, inn keeper, of the second part, George Spencer, of [blank], of the third part, John Round, of Binfield, baker, of the fourth part,  Richard Malins, of New Bracknell, butcher, of the fifth part, and John Roberts, of Wokingham, gentleman, of the sixth part: re release and conveyance of a piece of land called Providence and the messuage on it built by William Spencer. The adjoining garden lay on Priestwood Road.  Richard Malins successfully bid for the property at an auction at the Stag and Hounds inn in Binfield.  Some history of the property in earlier indentures is mentioned.  Written on two sheets of vellum, bearing 6 red seals, 2 blue revenue stamps, with signatures of witnesses, in good condition, folded.  £22.50 

 

[Manuscript]  Indenture in 5 parts, dated 6 September 1806, between George Danneley, late of Wokingham, officer of excise, but now of Odiham, co. So’ton, music master, and Elizabeth his wife, of the first part, Joseph Feltham, of Hinton St. George, co. Somerset, gentleman, of the second part, Philip Farrington, of Princes Street, p. Christchurch, Spitalfields, co. Middlesex, silk weaver, of the third part, John Deedy, of p. St. Giles, Reading, silk weaver, of the fourth part, and Richard Cole, of Odiham, of the fifth part; re assignment and release of property, including 2 messuages etc., on the south east side of Down Street, Wokingham.  Various local place names are mentioned, including the house of Susan Ifold, widow, known as the Roe Buck, which had been the venue for a public auction.  Other persons mentioned include Richard Raggett, Thos. Gregory, John James, John Louch, and Wm. Boham.  Written on 3 large sheets on vellum, bearing 6 seals and 3 revenue stamps; signatures of witnesses; spotted, rubbed on folds, in generally good condition.  £25.00

Down Street is known today as Denmark Street, having been so named in honour of Princess Alexandra.     

 

[Manuscript]  Indenture, dated 12 August 1867, between George Provost Heyward, of Egham, co. Surrey, surgeon, and Henry Yates, of New Windsor, postman, of the one part, and Charles Strutton, of Ascot Heath, esquire, of the other part: conveyance for £730 of a messuage and land, “late parcel of Windsor Forest near the racecourse at Ascot Heath … bounded on the North West by the racecourse, on the North East by an allotment to Robert Tebbott and Charles Snowden, and on the South by the turnpike road, on the West by an allotment to Thomas Bedborough …”.  Other persons mentioned include James Bailey, Elizabeth Lockhart, Cottlob [sic] and Charlotte Zeyhle, William and Elizabeth Dod, John Belworthy, and Stephen Blake.  Written on a single sheet of vellum, bearing 2 red seals, 2 blue revenue stamps, with signatures of witnesses, in very good condition, folded.  £25.00
